Visit at Catarates del Iguazu (July 26, 2007)Last week-end I went to Iguazu, very famous place in the North of Argentina, where I could see the giant waterfalls.
What you can see there is simply amazing; just check out the pics and vids, AMAZING !!!!
I am French, and I can’t hide it !!! (July 20, 2007)Ah ah I got a funny story to tell. It happened today, twice.
First, I took a cab to go to the flight company to pay for my flight tickets to Iguazu. I got in the taxi, and the taxi driver (they usually don’t even speak a word of english here in Argentina) tells me after a few seconds: “Soy Francès” ? Woah, I try ask him in english how he could get it so fast, while I was telling the direction in spanish. No luck, he doesn’t speak english. Ok, I just can tell him I am french, here in Buenos Aires to spend 3 weeks and a few other words in spanish, quite short conversation but this taxi driver was a cool guy!
Then I was still wondering for the rest of the day how he got it, is that my french accent ? Though, Argentina is not really a place where you might expect a great number of french tourists to go, hence this was not that obvious I think.
Alright, then the night I go out for dinner to a quite hype and expensive restaurant to eat some great “Bife de chorizo” (it’s getting my favourite piece of meat here). As usual now, I speak in spanish to order my food, and it seems to work well as I always get what I ask
At the end, when it’s time to ask for the bill, the waitress asks me if I pay by cash or by card. And then as I didn’t understood the first word for “cash” in spanish, she asks me if it not said “effective” in french. Woahhhhh ! Wait, how did she also got I was french ??? You can’t see it on my face and I spoke spanish with an “almost” spanish accent (^_^°)
Ok, here is the fact on how she could recognize it: this is not related to the accent at all, she was observing me when I was talking with her, and she said I opened my mouth only a little to pronounce the various words. And this is TYPICALLY french, we do not articulate a lot with our mouth when we speak, and only french people (lazy people lol) seem to speak like this.
Ah ah I learned a good one tonight!
I don’t understand this world (1st question) (July 15, 2007)Starting a series of questions, just to make you wonder about some facts in this world, in a funny way. If you have a piece of the reply, let me know ![]()
Why ordering a bottle of Coke in a café costs only 0.25 euros here in Argentina, about 0.15-0.2 euros in China, and between 2 and 5 euros in France ?
What I think: sitting in a french café is not the same as sitting in a café in China or Argentina, so hey it’s worth the price ? (joking of course)

Snow in Buenos Aires (July 11, 2007)Hi all,
Already 4 days spent in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I have been able to visit a bit more the city on sunday. I spent monday and tuesday on working only. Tomorrow I will try to get out, yes I said try … ![]()
On saturday, I went out with workmates to tour the city by night, go to a very good meat restaurant, try some wine (which is I think very good) and have some fun around. Was really great.
I visited on Sunday a very nice place called “San Telmo”, with a huge flee market and many antiquities shops in the streets. In this place, the architecture is also quite interesting to see, at least more than the traditional buildings near the office place. What a guidebook says about it:
This neighborhood was populated by aristocratic families towards the end of the 19th century. After the yellow fever the big mansions that belonged to high class families, became squats or “conventillos” where large numbers of people lived. Nowadays, its a neighborhood with narrow streets, colonial patios and with a bohemian smell in the air. There are art schools and arts and crafts fair as well as tango-show places.
Apart of that, it snowed on monday… Yes it is freaking cold here ! And yes it has snowed. People here say it has not been snowing since 90 years in the city ! And after that how can I trust Al Gore on TV when he says there’s global warming ?! No, he should come here and see by himself where the warming is … lol. Joking of course!
Bad news is that I still have not get back my luggages, which are probably lost in Madrid … Damn damn this is starting to be really worrying :§
Of, and if you might ask, what is good to see and taste in Argentina, I would say: taste the meat, it is delicious, and see the girls (”chicas” as they say here), they are gorgeous ! And they look very natural, serious, smart, not like bimbo at all. Beauty in all simplicity. I definitively like it ! You can also try the inverse: taste the girls and see the meat, it’s up to you ^^
First day in Buenos Aires ! (July 8, 2007)Ola, que tal ??
I am arrived in Buenos Aires after a long long flight ! And my luggage is lost somewhere in the world. Yes, I have nothing with me as they have lost it, and I am still waiting for them to find it. Let’s be patient …
I have put online the photos of my first day in Buenos Aires, it’s was quite nice discovering the city.
I have already eat in two restaurants, and the meat is delicious! And so cheap, only about 5-6 euros for a 400gr part of beef!
It’s a bit cold around there, it’s winter, and unfortunately the sky has been grey all day long. Doesn’t change me a lot from Paris for the moment. I hope I will see the blue blue sky that Argentina is so famous for, that they chose this colour for their national flag !
The city is really huge, yet I didn’t see so many people in the street, compared to China it feels like the streets are really empty.
The big surprise is, contrary to what I expected, only a few people speek english in the shops and restaurants
So I have to learn spanish quickly if I want to be understood !
Ok, I am not writing more for today, already spent too much time in front of my computer solving various issues in France, and writing the script so you can see the photos in a very friendly way.
