I am glad to publish today my second tutorial for WHS This tutorial will guide you through all the steps of setting up a FTP server on your Windows Home Server (WHS), so as to allow users to access specific folders of your WHS from anywhere in the world with only a FTP Client.

Instead of using the pre-installed Microsoft IIS FTP server component, I have chosen to replace it with the open-source Filezilla FTP Server, which is easy to install and configure, yet very powerful (it’s in my humble opinion the best FTP server out there too )

I would like to talk in this article about a new service that I discovered recently and that I find really great: Fleck ! This service is still in beta, but I find it very promising.

Fleck lets you annotate any webpage and share your annotations with any one. They are providing post-its and mementos for any webpages, and you can share them with your friends to work collaboratively !

This concept is not really new since many other web services offered it before. However, the really amazing thing is that thanks to Web 2.0 technology you do not need to install any software on your computer, everything is working with transparent layers that appear on top of your webpage. And Fleck has dozens other good ideas that make this service very cool to use. If like me you often send webpages links to your friends/family members/co-workers and they ask you “but where is the information you are talking me about ?” then Fleck might be of great help for you. But don’t limit the scope of use of Fleck to this example: it is far more powerful and social !

In case you are a heavy user of the service, they have also developped tools to make your life easier and save your time:
- a plugin is available for both Internet Explorer and Firefox
- bookmarklets for Firefox and Internet Explorer

Although it is still in beta, Fleck’s team aims to fully release the second version during The Next Web conference (June 1, Amsterdam) has told me Patrick De Laive, one of Fleck’s founders.

Now we are going to make a short walkthrough of the service, as said previously the best is to try it by yourself to see how powerful it is.

1. Type in the address of the website you want to annotate and click on the “Go” button
   
2. The website will load and you will see appear a toolbar at the bottom of the page, where you can perform several actions
   
3. Click on the “Note” button, a note will appear on top of the website. You can move it anywhere you want just by dragging it
   
4. Type your comment inside the note and click on the “Share” button to send a mail to your friends with a link to the flecked page
   
5. You can also submit the page to your blog directly from Fleck
   
6. That’s all for the walkthrough, pretty easy isn’t it ?

Il y a moins de trois semaines, je me suis commandé un téléphone Samsung I320 chez l’opérateur mobile virtuel (MVNO) Ten-Mobile avec un forfait email pro (qui inclue l’envoie et la réception illimitée de mails sur 3 boîtes maximum ainsi que MSN Messenger illimité). J’ai reçu mon téléphone voilà maintenant un peu plus d’une semaine, et je tenais à vous faire partager mon expérience jusqu’à présent.

Autant vous le dire immédiatement, je suis très satisfait du service pour le moment. Cela fonctionne nickel, je reçois mes mails instantanément, pas de soucis de réseau, et la configuration des boîtes mail est vraiment aisée. En plus le téléphone Samsung est super fin, et suffisamment ergonomique pour rédiger des mails très rapidement. Vous pourrez voir quelques photos et comparaisons avec mon ancien Motorola V3 (qui était pour moi une référence en terme de finesse).

Le fonctionnement de Ten-Mobile sur le téléphone est le suivant: on configure les accès aux boîtes mail via l’application Ten-Mobile en Java, puis le téléphone reçoit automatiquement en mode push les nouveaux emails dans une la boîte correspondante au compte via le menu “Messages” du téléphone. L’envoi de mail se fait aussi directement depuis le menu “Messages” du télépone. L’intégration est donc totalement transparente, seule l’étape de configuration nécessite le lancement de Java, et donc c’est un pur bonheur !

Mon autre usage, plutôt secondaire du mobile consiste à me connecter sur Windows Live Messenger via le téléphone. Là encore, tout est simple, il suffit de lancer le WLM sur le téléphone, rentrer les paramètres du compte (la première fois suffit) et on retrouve l’interface habituelle de Windows Live Messenger. On est donc pas perdu, cela fonctionne à merveille et exactement comme sur le msn pour PC, avec un principe d’onglets pour les discussions pour remplacer les fenêtres.

A ma grande surprise, et pour mon plus grand bonheur, le surf illimité via le navigateur Opera Mobile a été inclus cette semaine dans mon forfait et ce sans supplément. Très pratique pour accéder rapidement à une information.

Enfin, le dernier point que je voudrais souligner est le temps d’attente acceptable pour obtenir la hotline: toujours moins de 5 minutes pour être connecté avec un opérateur. Et fait à signaler: lorsqu’un opérateur dit qu’il me rappellera quand il aura une réponse à mon problème, il l’a fait ! Important à souligner tout de même. Par contre il faut éviter de leur poser des questions trop techniques, apparemment ils n’ont pas reçu une formation en télécom les gens au service hotline, et ils donnent des réponses neuneu telles que “redémarrer le téléphone et ca ira” (si le réseau a une coupure ca ne changera strictement rien) mais bon on peut pas trop leur en vouloir pour ca …

Pour résumer, je peux donc vraiment dire que grâce à Ten-Mobile je suis connecté et mobile à la fois Mon Samsung I320 est devenu un compagnon indispensable à mon travail, et je peux suivre même en réunion à l’extérieur mes projets et intéragir immédiatement avec les équipes comme si j’étais au bureau. Et tout ça pour seulement 16 euros par mois !

En ce qui concerne le Samsung I320, je ne vais pas publier un test, il y a en de très bons déjà trouvables sur Internet. Je vais juste vous confirmer l’inconvénient majeur du téléphone: très faible durée de vie de la batterie (< 1 jour) mais c’est normal on est tout le temps connecté en GPRS/EDGE avec le téléphone. Heureusement une seconde batterie est fournie et vous sera d’un grand secours. Pour le reste, le téléphone est nickel
